The benefits of being in a group are understated. When connections within a group are strong, everyone in the group benefits.

  • Knowledge is spread quicker and expertise/performance improves
  • People have greater access to resources.
  • Those in the group find it easier to find employment.
  • Members feel happier.
  • Conflicts decrease.
  • Often people are healthier.

It doesn’t matter if your competitors are in the group, nor if your enemies are in the group. It matters you have a tight group to which you belong. It matters that you're in a group with close connections. It matters that you chose to be in this group.

So if you don’t have a group yet, I suggest you start one. Use forums, mailing lists, Skype group chat, meetup, whatever it takes. Just make sure you’re an active member of a group which continues helps you all.
