Listen To Them Before They Listen To You

You can’t persuade anyone that isn’t willing to listen to you. 

No-one is willing to listen to you if they don’t feel you’re willing to listen to them.

The best way to make them feel you’re listening to them is to actually listen to them.

If you want to be better at bonding and influencing members, you want to ask them how they really feel about topical things that are happening in the community.

You have to show your admiration and appreciation for their thoughts and feelings.

You have to ask them what they want and help make that happen. 

It’s only once that you’ve fully listened to a member that they’re willing to listen to you. 

None of this is difficult, but it’s surprising how rarely we do it well.
