Get The Static Out Of The Way

Don’t let static content sit at the top of the page.

The top of the page is prime real estate. It’s where you put the most important content. If you’re building a community, the most important content is what’s happening in your community.

It should be right at the top. Nobody should scroll down, nor click a link to find out what’s happening. The moment the page loads, your user should know what’s happening in their community.

But what about new members? What about the information about the product/brand? What about the reason the static content is up there (to inform people about the company)?

Create a very clear “Just arrived?” link. Put the big corporate logo and “welcome to…” information on this page.
