This is a phrase I learnt years ago as a simple strategy for communities.
"own your zone"
If your community is about wearable technology, then you should own the entire space.
You should have the top people in your community. You should have the best content in your community. You should be hosting the events in your field.
More than that, you should find how the local news connects to what you’re doing.
If you can’t find how a major news story today affects your field, you don’t know your field well enough.
- How is wearable tech affected by the Davos meeting? Who from the industry is there?
- Are wearable tech suppliers/distributors in Ukraine heavily affected by the conflict?
- What does the State of the Union mean for wearable tech? More or less funding?
The list goes on and on. There should never be a shortage of content or discussions in the community.
If you don't own your zone, someone else will.
