Design Your Own Agenda

Years ago I learned a simple hack to get more value out of any event I attended.

I designed my own agenda.

Here’s a simple approach:

  • Write down your biggest problem
  • Write down the kind of people who can help you solve it
  • Write down the ideal outcome from the event

Now look at the sessions, plan which fit your agenda above and which don’t. Find others who are attending and schedule meetings during those empty sessions (or around the event). Don’t worry, the videos are usually online later.

Now here’s the really key tip. This works equally well in online communities too. Every community is more valuable to every member when members pursue an open agenda. Everyone else knows how to help and can get the psychological benefits of helping someone overcome their biggest problem.

You and your members can hope serendipity will help you find someone who can solve your biggest problem, or you can have a clear plan to make it happen. I’d suggest the latter.

It’s the last day to register for our FeverBee SPRINT event! If you want to learn a lot of advanced community skills from 14 world-class experts and ourselves, I hope you will join us at: http://sprint.feverbee.com.
