Another problem is def. that CM is most of the time not part of the bigger marketing strategy... There are so many brands / industries where CM could play such a big role or where community management is still "offline".

What I'm wondering then is, how would you recommend that a community manager that wishes to change this about herself start with being strategic? Let's say their completely unfamiliar with community strategy. Where does he begin?
