How does this differ from a comments box at the bottom of the post - like this one?

It brings people into your community. You can use it on outbound content that's posted anywhere. When people share it, it brings more people in.

Good idea. However it has its challenges.

People don't like to go somewhere else to discuss if they are already within a social space.

Such an outbound discuss link's effectiveness might be low within for example Facebook.

However, I will keep this in mind and use it where appropriate and evaluate.
