If people have contributed enough, gained exposure & recognition and made a good network of friends within the community, it's probably hard to get themselves moving out of it. That's why it's so important to interact and engage the fellow members of your community. The recognition and fame earned are priceless.

This reminds of Twitter during the heavy "FailWhale" days. Many of us were vocal in our frustrations over the instability of the network -- but we didn't leave. Why? All of the reasons you listed above. We were too invested.
