You need your members to invest in your community.
You need their time, their energy and their emotions. If they don’t invest, they have nothing to lose if they never return.
- Blogs
- Comments
- Forum Posts
- Customising Profiles
- Making Friends
- Learning the Community’s History’s
- Feeling passionate about issues
- Identifying with community ethos
These are all investments members can make.
The secret is to encourage a tiny investment from every member on day one, and show a return (a response, an impact etc…). Then ask for a slightly bigger investment.

This is, indeed, my goal for 2009. About 6 months ago, I started my blog and the goal was just "do it." Now, I know I need to fine-tune what I write and what I provide to readers so they want to participate and become involved. BUT that is actually a TALL order and will be a big accomplishment. Determining ways to make this happen will be an entire year-long endeavor. Teri Twitter: Teri_B
